Few days ago, several News platform reported the bloody fight involving the *OAU SUG leaders over issues relating to money.* I wrote an article concerning the *mismanagement of funds by the OOU SUG* in May but I couldn't put it out due to several reasons, I decided to revisit the issue today.
According to the outgoing VP3(Aiyetoro)Com. Adebayo Ibrahim, 9.8Million Naira was released by the School Management to the SUG. A *1st remittance of 1.8M and a 2nd Remittance of 8M. Another source stated the 1st remittance is actually 2.5Million Naira.* Before I go further, I want you to note there is a sharing formula in which the OOU Judiciary takes 10%, the Senate(SHS) takes 30% and the CEC takes the remaining.
The outgoing VP2(Ikenne/Sagamu), Comrade Moyo stated that he *submitted his budget thrice and his budget got misplaced thrice*. He went on to say the only money he received from the SUG was N15,000 which was his office impress. Just in case you don't feel the presence of OOU SUG in your respective campuses this is one of the reasons.
The VP3 Com. Adebayo Ibrahim, said he and the AGS3 received N15,000 & 10,000 respectively from the first remittance another 22,000 & 10,000 respectively from the 2nd remittance. He said they were told that *"their budget won't be financed due to the huge amount of the President's budget".* According to him, the *OOU SUG President's Capital project would cost 6.2Million Naira.*
I stated earlier that N9.8 Million was released by the School and *if you deduct N6.2Million from 9.8Million and you factor in the Judiciary, the Senate and the N500,000 which was used to repair the SUG bus nothing much is left.* According to the VP3, the SUG President wanted to build a relaxation center.
Before I go further, this issue of *relaxation center is what caused the bloody fight involving OAU SUG Leaders.* This relaxation center is nothing but a white elephant project which has been used to *siphon money from the OOU SUG*. The VP3 said he didn't bother to check out the project because he knows *it won't be worth 30% of the money.* we also reached out to the VP1, Electra and she had similar stories to tell on how her budget wasn't financed and she was sidelined in the Union activities.
The outgoing OOU SUG President's tenure is over and there is little that can be done but if we students want a vibrant Students' Union that will serve and impact students, we need to start asking the right questions.
